If You’re Happy and You Know Shout Hooray

I am also stamping my feet and clapping my hands that it is the weekend.

My son, for the first time, is also excited about Friday. I think it has been a long, short week for all of us.

We were off for more than a week for the Christmas holiday so it was hard getting back at it.

This weekend there will likely be some baking. My son requested to make both cupcakes and cookies and wants to use the new dinosaur sprinkles my aunt gave us.

I hope it also involves some backyard skating, some outside walking and some indoor playing.

Happy Weekend.

Summer is Here

Officially summer doesn’t arrive until June 21 but unofficially it’s here.

I am finally warm. I can go outside and feel the heat of the sun seeping through my skin and right into my bones. I feel completely relaxed, flittering from one activity to another – going high on the swings, flipping over on the monkey bars, watching my son play in his new mini pool, going for a walk and throwing stones in the lake.

We are eating watermelon and spraying bugs with the hose. We are planting our vegetable garden and hanging clothes on the line. We are watching robins build nests and orioles and hummingbirds emptying our feeders.

I am counting down the days until summer driving season and weekends full of fun plans.

Welcome warm weather.

Welcome Long Weekend

Despite the fact I was off Thursday and Friday two weeks ago and last Friday because of an illness that is just beginning to let go, I am ready for a long weekend.

I am ready to spend a day doing whatever we want – painting eggs, digging in dirt, playing in the water, jumping in puddles maybe with new rubber boots, racing cars and sculpting playdough.

Happy long weekend, everyone.

It’s The Weekend – Yaaaaaaa!

On Friday mornings on the way to daycare, I tell my little guy 'It’s Friday.'

I then ask him: ‘Do you know what that means? It’s the weekend.’

And we both clap loudly and say ‘Yaaaaaa.’

Despite having a wonderful day off yesterday – the boy is now two – I am glad it’s Friday.

It means a visit with the family Saturday, likely some jumping in leaves, napping and playing.

It’s Friday everyone. Yaaaaaaaaaaa!

A Little of This and A Little of That

My son decided sleeping wasn’t necessary last night.

He was awake – and quite happy – between midnight and 3 a.m. He was chatting, singing, clapping, hitting himself in the face (why do they do that?) and attempting to scale the wall. He finally fell asleep and the alarm went off a short two hours later.

New Sickness

He woke up at midnight with another cold. The poor guy just got over the flu.

Fridays vs Sundays
People are always excited about Fridays.
Fridays are great; it signals the last day of the workweek but the problem with Fridays is you still have to make it through the day. And when it’s a lovely 18 degrees out there (64 F) and sunny, with the forecast turning cold on the weekend, it’s even harder to be inside.

I like Sundays best.
Even though it’s the last day of the weekend and you are starting to mentally prepare for Monday, Sundays have always been a family day for me.

Saturdays can be busy with running around or visiting, but Sundays are nice to just hang out with your loved ones and enjoy the last day of relaxing before work.

Happy weekend everyone.

The Problem with Days Off

I was off Monday with my son.
We went to the doctor’s. We played. We went for a walk.
We had a great day.
And that’s the problem with days off – they make me want to have more of them.

Fun At Home

Today was supposed to be the first day my son tried daycare.

My daycare provider, LC, phoned me last night to inform me her five-year-old has come down with the flu and suggested my son stay home.

Yippee. (Yippee to my son staying home, not a child caught the flu.)

While I am sure my son will be OK with playing all day, Mommy wasn’t ready to lose her little guy, not even for four hours.

While I had made lots of plans to occupy the time, I really wasn’t looking forward to not being constantly around my little guy.

So while a small part of me was sad that I couldn’t develop pictures, the rest of me was excited that I could instead read, play with blocks, cuddle and enjoy my son as he explores his world.
