Morning or Night?

Since my son was born and I have returned to work, I have had to shower at night.

I hate showering at night.

My husband and my friend both prefer to shower before bed. They figure that extra half-hour of sleep in the morning is more important than having a hot shower before going to work.

I disagree.

If I am getting up in the morning to go to work, I might as well get up and have a shower, too.

Then I am awake, warm and clean before heading to work.

By showering at night, I am loosing a half hour of my time – my time to write in my journal, read a magazine or a book or simply go to bed a little earlier.

The Christmas List

My husband gave me a $25 gift certificate for Chapters, a bookstore chain, for Mother's Day.

There was a time when I would have cashed in the gift certificate as soon as I received it. Now my time is precious and any moment I am not at work, I am at home with my little guy.

Earlier this month, however, I needed to pick up a book I ordered. So I left work early and spent a leisurely hour looking at the end displays and special sections I wouldn't usual look at. And because the Christmas season is upon us, the store was filled with all things seasonal - from knick knacks to books.

Not only was it completely relaxing to spend time within a place filled with books, it was a joy to not have to worry about money and simply buy what I wanted.

I found three Christmas books on sale, one of which was called The Christmas List by Richard Paul Evans. I read The Christmas Box, also written by Evans, each Christmas.

The Christmas List is as good as The Christmas Box A Christmas Carol with a character more nasty than Ebenezer Scrooge. It was a fantastic book that haunted me days after. It was another book I had to re-read parts in order to get it out of my head.

A recommended read to anyone who loves Christmas and happy stories.

Hairdresser Day

I love getting my hair cut. I love going to the hairdresser and telling her to go nuts, do whatever she would like with my hair - with rules.

1. I am a 35-year-old professional and as such, I require a haircut that fits the part.
2. I am a wash-and-go kind of girl. The haircut must be one that allows me to shower, brush and go.

It’s a rare hairdresser who will unleash her creativity with my hair, which is unfortunate as I like someone who confident enough to chop off my long hair and create a whole new look.

As I hate spending money on the hairdresser (and I really hate that I am forced to give a tip), my hair is quite long by the time I show up at a hairdresser’s.

And most hairdressers see that length and opt for a trim rather than a whole new look, in fear I am not really ready to see all my hair on the ground.

What I also enjoy about the hairdresser is having my hair washed and brushed. I love people playing with my hair; I find it so relaxing.

But for me, it always boils down to cost. I would rather spend $50 to $80 on almost anything else.

So for the second time in a year, I went to Sassoon Husband for my hair-cutting needs.

The price was right.
