I have a craving for GMO-free snacks

I have had a craving for GMO-free foods for quite some time now. Or at least a few specific genetically modified organism (GMO)-free foods. I recently received a generous gift from Toronto’s Daniel Clarke from Bare Foods - an online store selling 22 products from six brands. All Bare Foods do not have GMOs, artificial flavours, high fructose corn syrup, harmful preservatives, hydrogenated oils and bleached or enriched flour. The are all nature and all delicious. Well, except for the mocha dark chocolate bar, which was too dark for me, and the chilli protein chips, which were too spicy. Right now, I have a serious craving for Sommersaults, little sunflower bites of deliciousness, that come in cinnamon, where you don’t taste the sunflower seeds, and sea salt, where the seed taste is quite strong. I wouldn’t say no to the dark chocolate and peanut butter bar, nor a chocolate quinoa bar. I would also say yes to the Taste of Nature bars. Who know GMO-free would be so addictive.

A Chocolate Record?

My husband bought me a one kilogram Cadbury’s Dairy Milk bar for Christmas this year.

In less than two weeks, we have eaten that chocolate.

Am I embarrassed? No. Could I eat more? Oh yes.

Bring on the Chocolate

Chocolate.

I need chocolate. I want chocolate. Where is the chocolate?

I have wanted chocolate, followed by a baked good, preferably a brownie, followed by some type of bread product since Monday.

Every time someone mentions something, I find a way to slip in the need for chocolate.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, there is none at my house.

That’s a lie. I made some truffles at Christmas and I have been pulling one truffle out each night, nuking it in the microwave and eating it. But that’s not what I want and while chocolate-y, I am left with the urge to get in my car and find some way to satisfy my chocolate craving.

It’s grocery-shopping day and I have had a weeklong craving. This is not going to be good.

Pass the cookies

I am afraid to look at the package.

I am afraid to check out just how many calories, how much fat and how much sugar I consumed when I polished off almost two boxes of mint Girl Guide cookies over the course of two days.

I am a sucker for chocolate. And for mint. And particularly for chocolate and mint together.

And while mint is supposed to help upset stomachs, mint Girl Guide cookies don’t, or at least not in the quantity that I just consumed, which is too bad really.

Shopping Heartaches

I understand clothing is important. I appreciate the fact that a nice-dressed person may have an advantage.

But that doesn’t stop the fact I hate clothes shopping. And I hate it because when I go, I am frustrated, angry, broke, disappointed and left wondering who clothing manufacturers make clothing for.

Because it isn’t me. And it likely isn’t you either.

I will admit it is getting a little easier to purchase clothing, particularly pants, for me.

In the past, my Mom and Dad would bring a tape measure to ensure the pants would have the required 34-inch inseam. And often, being tall meant being fat, and properly fitting clothing was next to impossible to find.

I still struggle to find pants that are long enough and it’s a rare day when I can find pants that are long enough and are on sale.

I usually have to pay extra, perhaps for the length.

Top shopping is a little easier as I have a petit top half, however, as noted in this blog, I don’t have a chest, so many of the shirts are less than flattering as I have nothing to fill it with. And as I don’t want the world to see what I don’t have, many tops cannot be purchased.

I was really worried about finding clothes that fit when I was pregnant.
And then I discovered Thyme Maternity.

After leaving that store, I understood why most women like shopping.
It was fun. Things fit; were reasonably priced; and there was no shortage of items I wanted to take home. In addition, the sales staff was fun, helpful and knowledgeable.

I told them I was coming back for all my regular-clothing needs. I can simply roll down the belly or eat more chocolate.

Chocolate Anyone?

Hello.

My name is Lisa Day. I am 35 years old and I have been battling my addiction for more than two decades.

I am a chocoholic. Yes, I can’t stop eating the good stuff. And by that I mean any milk chocolate product - nuts, no nuts, raisins, caramel, cookie, mint. If it’s milk chocolate, I not only want to eat it, I have to eat it until not a trace of it remains in my house, even if that means 400 grams of chocolate in a couple of days.

I can, and have, eaten chocolate before I have brushed my teeth in the morning. I can eat it after breakfast, in between breakfast and lunch, lunch and dinner, for dinner, after dinner and before bed. There is no such thing as too early for chocolate or too late for chocolate. In fact, any time is a good time to eat chocolate.

When I worked at a convenience store in my teens, I had a craving for chocolate that came with shakes and sweats. What was a girl to do? Eat chocolate of course.

I bought a 400-gram chocolate bar on Tuesday and it will be gone today. My husband and stepdaughter each only consumed one row. I have eaten the rest. But I am not a closet chocolate eater. I confess my chocolate-eating ways.

In fact, I am making a confession to you all. There are four squares left of that chocolate bar. By the time this blog entry is posted, that too will be gone.
My name is Lisa Day and I love chocolate.
