Thursday Confessions

I am now scared of driving.

There, I said it.

It is actually quite silly of me.

My recent accident, where a teenager on a cellphone hit my Sunfire head-on, occurred on my street, literally about a minute from home.

While snow-covered, the roads weren’t terrible and the visibility was fine.
But now when it snows, my stress level goes through the roof.

I am a ball of nerves on my street, my body untensing the moment I turn on to the main road.

However, I am still anxious about driving in snow, including the inch or so of white stuff that fell during the morning rush.

I have become one of THOSE drivers.

You know the ones. Those drivers who go the speed limit or under when a flake or two falls; who gripes the steering wheel hard; and who is looking around and talking to those around her – ‘Where are you going? Stay in your lane. If you hit me, I will be really upset.’

I am sure it will get better but in the meantime, my apologizes to those who want to go to fast.

If I had a teenager on a cell phone hit my car head on, I think I'd be (more) stressed about driving in the snow, too. I've never been worried about how I drive in the snow, I worry about other people. Especially those that seem to think they're invincible and drive like maniacs. I'll follow your (slower) driving anytime - and we'd be a stereo effect as I'd be saying the same things you would... :)

I had a similar experience in 2003 while pregnant with my first child. Hit head on (40 mph) by a teen turning left in front of me illegally. Weather was not an issue in my case. I've learned to always watch out for "the other guy"...

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment for Sweet Layla :)

I am so sorry to hear you are so stressed about driving now. I completely understand why you are but I hope the effect passes soon so you don't get so tense.

Cheers :-)

Never fear....an ounce of caution is better that to drive like the fool that created this whole problem...you're gonna be fine and if they don't like it...flip 'em the bird....lol

Sorry you feel that way Lisa, and all it took was a stupid girl talking on her cell to ruin your confidence.

I don't worry about driving in the winter, in fact, I love it. I feel it eliminates all the assholes who got there test done in the summer. It should be mandatory to test drivers in winter conditions, then, they would appreciate driving and be more conscious of the road conditions and others.

I have seen more stupid drivers in the winter than anytime of year and I have been driving for a VERY VERY LONG TIME. Everyone thinks they can stop on a dime.

I was taught at a VERY young age to not only look ahead but to also look across, behind and even on the road across from you driving the otherway, sometimes, I feel like an owl looking for prey. I have also added one more thing to my driving and that is looking above while I go under bridges etc. in case some idiot decides to through something over.

Give it time Lisa you'll be just fine.

I've never been in a serious accident, I live in Florida where is no snow, and I STILL am afraid of driving the roads due to the exact reason you're now on a first name basis with your claims rep!
The snow season will be over soon, hopefully and glad you're okay! '
(My site runs the Spin Cycle and this week is Confessions, your post is perfect for it, if you want in, let me know!)

Hopefully spring will come soon and the snow will dissolve...I hate driving in the snow also, always afraid I will run into someone. (Unlike you, I've never had that experience.)

I'm the same way about driving in the dark. And if there was snow AND it was dark, I probably would stay home or make someone else drive. Luckily, it doesn't snow a lot here.

Welcome to the "those drivers" club!
Ever notice my white knuckles after a drive in to the office in a snowstorm?
It's terrible.
Mind you, I've been getting in accidents since I was about 18 years old. But it's always tough to get back in the drivers seat.
